May 16, 2004
Dear friends and family,
I'm off on the next leg of the pro leisure tour. It's the wisdom
seeking
portion of the journey. I'll be in Senegal visiting the Goudiaby
family
from May 17 through May 31. I hope to learn the whole life story
of
Souleymane Goudiaby aged 102 or thereabouts. I will share his words
of
wisdom with all of you.
From May 31 through June 14 I'll be in
France
mostly with Sisi Dugue, an 80 something French friend of mine
who also
has quite a story to tell and many words of wisdom about how
to enjoy life
French style -- eat, live, and make love as often as possible.
June 14
through the 20th I'll be in Ireland with sisters Mary and Molly
and
Molly's husband Tim and their son Woody. It will be a big celebration
on June
16 for James Joyce's character Leopold Bloom in the novel Ulysses.
Everyone in Dublin will be drinking and recounting the life
of Bloom. Not having
read Ulysses, I plan to enjoy the drinking. Of course I bought
a copy which
I plan to read before arriving.. Tim will fill us all in,
being the
Joyce scholar that he is.
Then I'm on to England June 20 to visit friends I worked with
in
television land last year. I also hope to see my old college friend
Paul Merson
and the Coopers who were friends of mine when I lived in Dakar.
I return
to the states June 30, whereupon I will immediately head to Maine
with Kenny
and his famous friend, Tim Keating, and Tim's wife, Viki.
I'm a little frantic now because I have to leave for the airport
in 45
minutes and I can't find my malaria pills. Kenny has gone through
all
the garbage cans and is currently emptying my suitcase to find
them. They
seem to have disappeared completely. In fact, I've given up hope
at this
point, and will just have to buy some when I arrive in Dakar.
Love you all loads.
Amy
P. S. Miracle of miracles! Kenny just found the malaria pills
on the
floor next to the night stand in the bedroom. Yeah Kenny.
